About the Energy Efficiency Capital Grant

The Energy Efficiency Capital Grant (EECG) was launched in April 2024 to help Northern Ireland businesses reduce energy costs and build resilience through green efficiency.

Following one year of operation, we have paused the scheme to review its performance against the Department for the Economy’s objective of delivering a greener, more prosperous economy.

It is our intention to reopen the scheme once a full assessment has been completed. We will let you know when this is due to happen.

What are the benefits of the Energy Efficiency Capital Grant?

The Energy Efficiency Capital Grant (EECG) provides grant funding to help Northern Ireland businesses reduce energy costs and build resilience through green efficiency.

The scheme offers support to buy and install energy-efficient equipment that reduces energy and carbon emissions. Examples of projects supported include:

  • Heating and cooling equipment
  • Motors and drives
  • Compressed air
  • Lighting
  • Onsite renewable generation

This programme is part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Is my project eligible for the Energy Efficiency Capital Grant?

To be eligible, projects must:

  • Have a total eligible spend of at least £4,000.
  • Demonstrate energy and carbon emission savings, these figures vary depending on the type of project; check guidance notes for more details.
  • Achieve a payback of between 1 and 8 years. A higher payback may be allowed but these projects will require a higher level of energy and carbon savings. This is the capital cost divided by the yearly energy savings.
